State's last 2 disaster recovery centers to close
SPRINGFIELD -- The last two recovery centers opened to assist victims of severe storms and flooding in Illinois will close this week.
The Disaster Recovery Centers opened June 1 to assist Illinois residents in disaster-designated counties. The last two centers are in Dallas City in Hancock County and in Machesney Park in Winnebago County. The Dallas City center will close Wednesday, and the Machesney Park site will close Friday.
Officials say the centers are closing because fewer people are using them.
In all, almost 1,700 people have sought assistance at the 12 centers.
Officials say disaster victims can still apply for assistance by phone by calling 1-800-621-3362.
