Smashing Pumpkins to play Horseshoe Casino
Chicago's Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin put out a new Smashing Pumpkins album ("Zeitgeist") last year, but have yet to play a gig in the band's hometown since reviving the band. This sold-out show comes close. It's part of the opening weekend for a new casino venue located just over the Indiana border. If you don't want to hassle with scalpers, rumors say they finally will hit Chicago in November. 8 p.m. Saturday at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino, 777 Casino Center Drive, Hammond, Ind. $85/sold out. (312) 559-1212.
The Attraction
With former members of Best Days Behind, White Hot Knife, The Gelheads and other names familiar from the local club scene, The Attraction already had fans when they formed. After this weekend, when they release their first CD, "You Leave Us No Choice," the quintet's going to have a lot more, as their sorta goth/pop/mallcore style sounds ready for immediate airplay. 6 p.m. today at Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., Chicago. $9. (773) 549-0203.
Los Lonely Boys and Los Lobos
Both long-running Los Lobos from East LA and relative youngsters Los Lonely Boys, three bluesy brothers from Texas, draw from cultural roots north and south of the border. Two generations join for "The Brotherhood Tour," thus connecting the eras between two of the U.S.' best-known Latin rock acts. 8 p.m. today at Ravinia Festival, 418 Sheridan Road, Highland Park. $20-$45. (847) 266-5100.
