Ac Rock doesn't play 'annoying kiddie tunes'
They have color-coordinated identities and sometimes perform for children, but don't confuse them with the Wiggles.
The colors are just part of Ac Rock's branding, says first tenor Paul Iams.
"We have a green guy, not a narcoleptic purple guy. We perform actual music, not annoying kiddie tunes," said Iams, whose group has been performing a cappella rock mixed with freewheeling humor for 16 years.
"We never set out to perform for kid audiences, but early on someone saw us and said there's a place for you in schools."
Their standard black outfits didn't work for a kids audience, so they adopted the color-coded costumes.
The group also includes yellow guy second tenor Gary DeVar of Woodstock, blue guy baritone Chris Brown of Naperville and green guy bass Mark MacLean of Willow Springs.
Most of their performances are at private events. However the group can be found at outdoor concerts around the suburbs this summer.
They'll appear at the Bartlett Public Library from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and the Addison Public Library Sept. 21. They also will be at Navy Pier in Chicago July 20, Aug. 17 and Aug. 30.
