UAW holds strike vote at Mitsubishi's downstate plant
Neither side is talking in the wake of a vote by union workers at the Mitsubishi Motors plant in downstate Normal.
Negotiations reportedly continue ahead of the August 28th labor contract expiration. The results of Sunday's vote by the plant's United Auto Workers is unknown. Management and union officials have instead issued a joint statement saying only they each want a deal that satisfies management and workers.
The statement says both parties will not comment while negotiations continue. Both sides played down the significance of Sunday's vote, calling it a standard part of the negotiation process.
Mitsubishi employs 1,366 union workers in Normal. UAW members there waged a one-day strike in 2001.
