Standing for anthem a small price to pay
As 20 plus year attendees of the Lake County Fair we have always been disturbed by the handful of people who don't stand or remove their hats while the national anthem is being played during special events. This year it was especially difficult to observe this act of disrespect as our 20-year-old daughter is now serving our country and will be deployed to the Arabian Sea in January. It is people like our daughter who give us the freedom to attend such events and simply standing up to honor the nation in which we live seems a very small price to pay for these privileges. You may never know the personal sacrifices the people sitting next to you at the rodeo or demolition derby are making on your behalf. If you are capable of running for a corn dog or funnel cake, certainly you are capable of standing and respecting the families of the young people who serve you so well.
