Pedestrian killed in DeKalb freight train accident
DEKALB -- A 24-year-old man is dead after being struck by a freight train as he walked near railroad tracks on DeKalb's west side.
Police Corporal Scott Farrell says detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident, which occurred early Saturday morning. Farrell says the victim, who he would not identify, was walking in a dimly lit area when he was struck by a westbound Union Pacific freight train.
The train conductor called police, informing them of the accident. Farrell says the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
