Elgin chamber plans vintage golf scramble

On Aug. 14, join the Elgin Area Chamber Invitational 1908 Scramble Golf outing. This networking event is a way to support the Elgin Area Chamber and have a fun at the same time.

Celebrating its centennial, the chamber invites golfers to join them on the course with their knickers, argyles, neckties and wooden clubs. Join the fun and dress as the golfers did 100 years ago.

This year, the Elgin Area chamber golf outing will be at the city of Elgin-owned Highlands Golf Course. This 18-hole, par-71 course will challenge pro and amateur alike. After a round of golf, golfers will be dining in the new prairie-style clubhouse, The Hickory Stick.

There is a choice of two shotgun rounds of golf at 7:30 a.m. or 1:15 p.m. Golfers can start out the day at 6:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast, golf, and then get to the office before coming back for dinner for only $125. Or golfers can start your day at the office and then join us for lunch, golf, and dinner for a $145 registration fee.

Numerous contests along the way will keep the golfers busy and holes-in-one opportunities for new cars will also be available.

After golf in the afternoon, golfers are welcome to join us for the social hour and dinner buffet. Those who would like to join us for dinner can do so with a $45 dinner reservation.

The chamber is taking the phrase "letting that golf ball fly" to the extreme this year with a helicopter golf ball drop raffle. For a $25 raffle ticket, you have the chance to win $1,000 if your golf ball is the first in the cup or closest to the pin. The winner need not be present so everyone has a chance to win.
