Couple charged with selling drugs in Elgin

A Chicago couple was arrested Thursday after selling cocaine to an undercover Elgin cop three times in three days at fast food restaurants in Elgin and Carpentersville, police said.

Jade A. Stewart, 26, of 135 S. Austin Ave., was charged with three counts of delivery of a controlled substance, three counts of possession of a controlled substance and delivery of controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school, 1,000 feet of a senior citizen center and 1,000 feet of a park, police said.

Darryl D. Mason, was charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and senior citizen center, police said.

Elgin police said Stewart sold ).7 grams of cocaine for $60 to the undercover officer at an east side Elgin fast food restaurant on Tuesday.

Stewart and Mason sold a gram of cocaine to the undercover officer for $100 at a Carpentersville fast food restaurant on Wednesday and 0.7 grams of cocaine to him again on Thursday at yet another fast food restaurant on Elgin's west side, police said. Patrol officers monitoring the drug sale on Thursday stopped their car on the 1300 block of Lillian Street and arrested the pair, police said.

Before they were arrested, the couple told the undercover officer they would give him free cocaine if he made a purchase from them again because he was a good customer, police said.

Elgin police said that during his interview, Mason accused a police officer of striking him in the face.

Police said Mason then stepped back and hit himself in his eye with his own fist.

Mason was wanted on a warrant for domestic battery in Carpentersville and tried to convince police he was only 14 years old when he was arrested, police said.

Neither Stewart or Mason was able to post their $20,000 bonds and both were taken to the Kane County jail.

Both have preliminary hearings on Aug. 13 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
