Exelon names board member

John A. Canning Jr. has been appointed to the Exelon board of directors. Canning is chairman and co-founder of Madison Dearborn Partners LLC and chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

MDP is a Chicago-based management buyout and special equity investment firm Canning cofounded in 1993. He also spent 24 years with First Chicago Corp., including as executive vice president of First National Bank of Chicago.

Canning received a bachelor's degree from Denison University and a law degree from Duke University. Exelon's 15-member board appointed Canning on July 29, with the appointment effective Friday.
