Gagne has no comment after ejection
MILWAUKEE - Brewers reliever Eric Gagne elected to say nothing about the pitch he threw behind Jim Edmonds in the ninth inning Thursday with the Cubs ahead 9-1 and about to sweep the four-game series at Miller Park.
But Edmonds knew it's intent, as did home-plate umpire Doug Eddings, who quickly tossed Gagne from the game.
"He said that he thought Gagne did it on purpose," Brewers manager Ned Yost said.
It certainly seemed as if the Brewers, tired of being pounded on for four days, wanted to serve the Cubs a little reminder that they would see them again in September.
"I didn't get hit, but I know where that came from," Edmonds said, in reference to Yost. "I would bet a lot of money that didn't come from the pitcher."
The pitch behind Edmonds came on a 3-0 count, forcing a walk.
"My thoughts don't matter," Gagne said when asked what happened.
The Brewers had more trouble with Eddings in the bottom of the ninth when he ejected Prince Fielder for arguing balls and strikes.
"Nobody is happy after a game like this, and I'd be upset if they were," Yost said.
