Jail tours planned:
The new Kane County jail and sheriff's office will be open for tours during a public open house from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. The 640-bed jail and office are at 37W777 Route 38, St. Charles. The facilities also will be open for public tours from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday as part of National Night Out Against Crime. For more information, call (630) 232-6840.
Campton farmers market:
Fresh fruits, vegetables and meats are among the locally produced goods on sale each week at the Campton Hills Farmers Market. The markets take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through Sept. 27 at Campton Crossings shopping center along Route 64. Call (630) 584-5700.
Getting used to baby:
A two-day workshop, "Bringing Baby Home," for expecting and parenting couples based on Dr. John Gottman's transition-to-parenthood research meets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Aug. 9 at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. Batavia Avenue foot tour:
The Geneva History Center's Historic Homes group is offering a guided walking tour of Batavia Avenue at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20. The tour will feature 11 homes, including the Pope and Fargo homes. Cost is $10 per participant, with all proceeds benefiting the Geneva History Center. The tour will begin at the Cole Pope House at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Nature programs for kids:
Children 3 to 6 can explore nature in the Kane County Forest Preserve's "Near to Nature" programs. Children and their parents will explore natural areas, go on hikes and play games. The cost is $5 for each session. The dates: Aug 26 at Burnidge Forest Preserve, 38W235 Big Timber Road in Elgin; Aug. 27 at Tekakwitha Woods Nature Center, 35W076 Villa Maria Road, St. Charles; and Aug. 28 at the Les Arends Forest Preserve, 2S731 Route 31 in Batavia.
