New this week: 'Never Back Down,' 'Harold and Kumar,' 'Shine a Light'
These DVDs were released this week.
"Never Back Down"
Jake Tyler (Sean Faris) is a tough kid who has moved with his family from Iowa to Orlando. He enters high school, and meets Baja (Amber Heard), who invites him to a party. Her boyfriend Ryan (Cam Gigandet) is a bully, and beats up Jake at the party. Jake goes to the gym and is taken under the wing of Jean Roqua (Djmon Honsou), who teaches
him tough love and martial arts. There is a little romance in the story, but it is the ultimate rematch that binds the story together.
"Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo"
Having completed their journey to find a White Castle, Harold (John Cho) and Kumar(Kai Penn) are off to Amsterdam to find Harold's girlfriend. Kumar smuggles a bong on the plane, and lights up in the washroom. There is commotion on board and the pair end up in a detention center in Guantanamo Bay. They escape and head to Miami. We are treated to a series of wild adventures on their road trip with a lot of laughs along the way.
"The Band's Visit"
Winner of many awards at festivals, the film begins with a group of men in tailored uniforms at a bus stop. They are members of The Alexandria (Egypt) Police Ceremonial Orchestra who have arrived in Israel for the opening of an Arab Cultural Center. No one has come to meet them, and they end up on a wrong bus. The group arrives in a small town, and the residents are happy to have them there. Stories begin to develop, and the men discover how much the cultures have in common. It's a wonderful story about communication and understanding.
"Shine a Light"
Martin Scorsese has made a great documentary on The Rolling Stones, and it's not like anything you've ever seen before. He used ten cinematographers to film the Stones at the Beacon Theater in New York. It will seem that you are actually in the audience seeing and listening to the living legends, who have been together for 45 years.
The DVD includes many of their hits, classic clips of the group, backstage footage, interviews, four bonus songs, and a featurette.
