Fire damages Gurnee garage

A fire Wednesday caused about $25,000 in damage to a garage and its contents but no one was hurt, a Gurnee fire official said.

The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. at a two-stall garage at 3743 Country Club Ave. Firefighters arrived to find a that a discarded smoking material, such as a cigarette or cigar, had caught a stack of firewood behind the garage on fire.

The flames then spread through the back wall, causing damage to the garage interior and roof. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 20 minutes. No one was home at the time, officials said.
