No wailing, gnashing of teeth
John Babush opens his July 21 letter with: "I've noticed much wailing and gnashing of teeth on the left side of the fence since the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the fact that the Second Amendment applies to individuals. I am not surprised to hear these rumblings, as this bunch never appeared to have the capacity for logical thought and has always relied on emotional caterwauling in its arguments, such as they are."
I am not sure how Mr. Babush knows how the 50 or so million "lefties" in the country feel about the Court ruling. And is he saying that everyone that votes Democratic is a lefty and therefore lacking the capacity for logical thought? As for wailing and gnashing of teeth, I have heard very little from the "left side of the fence." At least not nearly as much wailing and gnashing of teeth from the right side of the fence when the Court issues a ruling that they disagree with.
Yes, the activist Supreme Court, which tends to be very conservative, ruled that the Second Amendment applies to individual Americans, but it took over 200 years to get the decision. There is a very good chance that Mr. Babush will someday be wailing and gnashing his teeth when another court overrules precedent and issues another interpretation of what the Second Amendment really means.
Despite the ruling, the Second Amendment is confusing and we will never really know what the framers were thinking when they wrote the amendment then; and we can only wonder how they would word the amendment today.
