Teen charged in attack on homeless man in Elgin
A dispute over $100 led to the beating and stabbing of a 22-year-old homeless man Friday at the Metra station in Elgin, police said.
Arlan J. Stone, 17, of 510 W. Highland Ave., Elgin, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with great body harm and aggravated battery on a public way.
Stone, a resident of Elgin's Larkin Center Home, gave a friend a $100 bill to buy him cigarettes downtown, police said. The underage friend gave the $100 to the victim, who then refused to return any money, police said.
After being unsuccessful in getting the victim to return the money, Stone grabbed a metal pipe and plunged it into the victim's back in the Metra lot, police said.
Stone and two or three other men threw Robbins to the ground and began punching and kicking him, police said.
The victim was taken to Sherman Hospital a gash in his back, police said.
Kane County Judge Kevin Busch set bond for Stone at $5,000 Tuesday.
Stone was unable to post bond and was taken to the Kane County jail to await his next court date on Aug. 7 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
Elgin police are still looking for the two or three other men involved in the incident.
