Concerts in the park

Free concerts are planned in St. Charles through Aug. 14 for the park district's annual Concerts in the Park series. The concerts start at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Park, along West Main Street between Fourth and Fifth streets. Scheduled are April's Reign on Thursday, the U.S. Air Force Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble on Aug. 7, and Howard and the White Boys Aug. 14. Call (630) 513-6200.

Golf scramble registration

The Orchard Valley Golf Course in Aurora is taking registrations for a four-person scramble Aug. 17. Tee times begin at 7 a.m. The $260 entry fee includes the event purse and greens fees. Art fest needs helpers

Volunteers are needed for the Aug. 9 and 10 Art In Your Eye Festival at the Batavia Riverwalk. Positions include help with setup, tear-down, the information tent, hospitality for the visiting artists, parking and traffic management, and children's art activity assistance. Low-cost spay clinic

National Animal Welfare Society of the U.S. will transport dogs and cats from the Aurora Animal Control and Care Facility, 600 S. River St., to its Mokena clinic for a low-cost spay/neuter/vaccination program Aug. 13. The fee is $50 to spay or neuter a dog and $25 for a cat. Heartworm testing and vaccinations for rabies, distemper and bordetella (kennel cough) are $10 each. Reservations are required. Interested pet owners can pick up a form at the Aurora Animal Control facility or call the Mokena clinic at (708) 478-5102. Pets must be at the Animal Control facility by 6:30 a.m. the day of transport and will be brought back between 5 and 5:30 p.m. the same day.

5K run for DayOne

A 5K run in St. Charles on Sept. 7 will raise money for DayOneNetwork, an organization that provides services to people with disabilities. The Run for DayOne is planned for 8 a.m. at Pottawatomie Park, 8 North Ave. A half-mile "family walk" follows at 9 a.m. Registration by Aug. 8 is $20 for both adults taking part in the run and families participating in the walk.
