Carpentersville man runs over friend after late-night visit, cops say

A Carpentersville man chased down and ran over with his car a friend who had knocked on his door in the middle of the night and awakened his son, police said.

Homero Nambo, 21, of Carpentersville was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin with broken ribs and two collapsed lungs and was listed in critical condition.

Emilio DeLaRosa-Mendoza, 28, of 1516 Pawnee Road, Carpentersville, was charged in Elgin Branch Court Monday with aggravated battery with great bodily harm, police said.

"DeLaRosa-Mendoza became very upset after his doorbell was rung and son awoke, and he left home driving very fast down several streets," Carpentersville police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said.

Nambo stopped DeLaRosa-Mendoza at Navajo Drive and Sioux Avenue in the early morning hours Sunday where he entered the car, but was ordered out, police said. And when Nambo ran around the front of the car, DeLaRosa-Mendoza drove over him with two of the car's tires, police said.

DeLaRosa-Mendoza then drove down the street, turned around, picked Nambo up off the street, put him in his car and drove him to the hospital.

Carpentersville police said DeLaRosa and Nambo were acquaintances and might even be distantly related.

Carpentersville police also said they hoped to talk with the victim, if he recovers.

Kane County Judge Kevin Busch set DeLaRosa's bond at $10,000 and he was taken to the Kane County jail Monday afternoon.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 8 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
