3 dead, 3 missing in N.Y. ocean waters
NEW YORK- Authorities say three swimmers drowned and three are missing in two days of treacherous ocean currents at Long Island and New York City beaches. At least three more have been rescued.
In Long Beach, police Lt. Bruce Meyer says a swimmer or surfer died Saturday after he was spotted struggling about 150 feet from shore. Another man had drowned at the same beach Friday while playing football in about 3 to 5 feet of water after lifeguard hours.
A third swimmer drowned Friday afternoon at Sandy Bar Beach on Long Island's East End. The missing swimmers include a 10-year-old girl who had been playing Saturday in the waters off Coney Island.
