Dog dies after Carpentersville house fire
A dog was killed during a Carpentersville home fire early Friday morning, fire officials said.
The fire started in the kitchen at 459 Elm Ridge Road at about 4:45 a.m, said Chief John Schuldt of the Carpentersville Fire Department.
Smoke and flames were seen in the rear windows of the two-story home upon arrival of units, Schuldt said.
The lone occupant, whose name was withheld, was standing in the driveway when the units arrived. He told fire officials that everyone was out of the house except one of the family dogs, Schuldt said.
The dog was located and transported to Dundee Animal Hospital by rescue crews but died, Schuldt said.
The fire was extinguished in 10 minutes, but damage was heavy in the kitchen area with smoke and heat throughout the home, Schuldt said.
The fire reportedly started on the stove due to cooking oil igniting and spreading.
The home is uninhabitable, Schuldt said.
Fire departments from East Dundee, West Dundee and Rutland Dundee assisted in the blaze, Schuldt said.
