Des Plaines police arrest two men for attacking vehicle outside station

Des Plaines police on Saturday arrested two Chicago men who they say damaged a vehicle outside the police station and then led police on a short chase.

Police said the two men followed a 37-year-old Des Plaines man who was dating their friend's girlfriend from a club on North Halsted Street in Chicago about 5 a.m. Saturday.

The two men tailed him in their 2000 Ford Explorer to Des Plaines. The man drove to the police department and parked his 2008 Ford van on the walkway between the police department and city hall.

Police allege Danny Roman, 23, of 2200 N. Talman Ave., Chicago, got out of the SUV, ran to the van carrying an aluminum bat. He then smashed the driver's-side window and mirror, passenger's-side window and mirror and one of the headlights, police said.

Officers said they saw the attack on the van and ran to the scene. Roman jumped into the SUV driven by Osvaldo Alamo, 23, of 2600 N. Kimball Ave., Chicago. Police said Alamo then backed the Explorer into a light post and handicapped parking sign. In the process, police said, he nearly hit an officer as he left the area.

Alamo drove west in the eastbound lanes on Miner Street and sped through a red light at Graceland Avenue, police said.

Officers stopped the Explorer on the 1000 block of Northwest Highway in Mount Prospect and found a bent aluminum bat and two open bottles of beer inside, police said.

Alamo was charged with felony and misdemeanor criminal damage to property, driving under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding a police officer and reckless driving.

Roman was charged with felony and misdemeanor criminal damage to property and aggravated assault.
