Child victim sues teacher, school district

URBANA -- A victim of a former Urbana elementary teacher convicted of sexually abusing children has filed a civil lawsuit.

The suit named former teacher Jon White, the Urbana School District and school district employees.

White was convicted in February of 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Eight of the counts were in Champaign County, where he taught at Thomas Paine Elementary School in Urbana. Two were from McLean County, where he taught at Colene Hoose Elementary School in Normal.

The suit states staff knew about White's behavior but allowed it to continue.

The lawsuit filed Friday seeks more than $1.6 million from all defendants.
