Woman breaks foot trying to escape prostitution arrest
When Rolling Meadows police tried to arrest Lin Shi for prostitution, she jumped from a second-floor balcony.
She ended up with a prostitution arrest and a broken heel.
Shi, of Chicago, was treated at Northwest Community Hospital before police arrested her for prostitution at 12 Oaks of Woodfield apartment complex at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The area has been the target of police for more than a month since they set up barricades and checked everyone who entered and left the complex at Algonquin Road and Route 53. The barricades came down after two weeks, but officials said the police presence would not.
"According to Craigslist, this has been going on for at least a couple of months," said Sgt. Thomas Gadomski of the Rolling Meadows Police Department.
An anonymous caller tipped off police, Gadomski said.
Lin Shi, 32, went by "Jenny" and advertised sexual favors on the Internet, according to police. When police called the phone number, Andrew Kim, 19, of Mundelein answered and arranged to have an undercover officer meet Kim at 12 Oaks of Woodfield, police said. When the officer arrived Shi disrobed and offered a sex act in exchange for money, police said.
Although Kim lives in Mundelein, he also rented the apartment at 12 Oaks, Gadomski said.
Shi was charged with prostitution and Kim was charged with keeping a place of prostitution. Neither Shi nor Kim have a prior criminal record.
12 Oaks residents were not shocked by the arrests, police said.
"Investigators learned that several neighbors were suspicious or were not surprised by the arrests, stating that they saw different men entering the apartment at all hours of the day and night for the past couple of months," according to a police report.
Kim and Shi posted bail and have Aug. 12 court dates in Rolling Meadows.
