Weapon, drug charges leveled against Lake Co. teens

Loud music playing in a moving car led to the arrests of two teenagers on weapon and drug charges, Waukegan police said today.

Anthony Hubanks, 18, of the 700 block of Walnut Street in Waukegan, was charged with violation of Waukegan's noise ordinance, possession of marijuana and aggravated unlawful use of weapon. Randall Styles, 17, also of the 700 block of Walnut, was charged with marijuana possession, said authorities.

Police Cmdr. Wayne Walles said the incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. July 16 when a beat cop was walking down Walnut. He said the officer heard the music coming from Hubanks' car from more than 50 feet away, in violation of Waukegan's local law.

Walles said Hubanks was ordered to stop his car, which happened after the suspect bounced off two other vehicles as he pulled into a parking stall. Walles said Hubanks overshot the space, with half of his car parked on grass.

After looking into the car, said Walles, the officer found a loaded .38 caliber revolver under the driver's seat. He said a further search yielded a partially smoked joint with about .03 grams of marijuana in it.

Hubanks has been held in lieu of $75,000 bond at the Lake County jail in Waukegan. Styles, who police said was a passenger in Hubanks' car, was freed from the jail after posting bail.
