100 families still homeless from flooding
MACHESNEY PARK -- Officials in the northern Illinois village of Machesney Park estimate that about 100 families are still homeless since last month's floods.
Village officials are still trying to figure out who is homeless, make sure they've applied for assistance and determine the extent of their losses.
They've said they made some progress getting people back into their homes because they know of about 30 of the original 130 homes where utility service was disconnected now have power again.
In all, Village Community Development Director Karen Lemmons says about 700 homes were affected by floodwaters.
