Preliminary winners named in Mackinac race
MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. - Preliminary winners have been announced in the annual Chicago to Mackinac Island yacht race.
The Velero VII won the Mackinac Trophy division with a corrected time of 47 hours, 49 minutes.
The Mirage won the cruising division with a corrected time of 51 hours, 35 minutes.
And the Gamera won the multi-hull division for the third straight year, posting a corrected time of 51 hours, 1 minute.
A spokeswoman says about 50 boats still were out and were expected to finish by Tuesday evening. A total of 434 boats began the 333-mile race across Lake Michigan Saturday.
Results will be final after all boats finish and protests are heard.
