Teen accused of killing newborn

The mother of a newborn child found dead in the back seat of a car over the weekend has been charged with murder.

Eighteen-year-old Antoinette Johnson had given birth to the child a short time before his body was found Saturday by police in a car on Chicago's South Side. An autopsy determined the child had been smothered, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Chicago police spokeswoman Officer JoAnn Taylor said Tuesday that Johnson was charged with first-degree murder.

Johnson is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Wednesday afternoon.
