Briefs: Terry Moran Day rescheduled

The Terry Moran Family Day and Softball Tournament scheduled for last Saturday was canceled due to flooding at Kimball Hill Park in Rolling Meadows. The softball games have been rescheduled for Aug. 23 to coincide with the Rolling Meadows 50th Anniversary Celebration at Kimball Hill. Seussical tickets still available

Seussical, the Musical, continues this weekend at Prospect High School, featuring nearly 25 families in a cast of 93 in a high energy show based on 17 of Dr. Seuss' famous children's books. The 39th annual St. James Community Theatre production is being staged at Prospect because of construction at St. James in Arlington Heights. Help food pantries

The Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 Community Partnership has teemed up with the Ram Restaurant & Brewery in Wheeling to host a canned food drive today to benefit local pantries. Any family that donates one nonperishable food item will get 10 percent off their purchase. Anyone who donates two or more items will receive 20 percent off. The restaurant is located at 700 N. Conference at Stevenson

Stevenson High School and Western Illinois University are joining forces to offer a professional development conference for educators July 30-31. "Summer Experience North" will focus on ways teachers can use technology in the classroom. Participants will attend two three-hour, hands-on sessions each day at Stevenson, which is on Route 22 in Lincolnshire. The cost is $100. Fight leads to charges

Carlos A. Farfan, 22, 1877 S. Pine St., Des Plaines, and Guadalupe Martinez IV, 33, 1004 S. River Road, Des Plaines, were arrested after officers broke up a fight between five or six men armed with metal pipes and bats in an apartment parking lot on the 1800 block of Pine Court, Des Plaines police said. According to reports, Martinez threw a glass bottle at one of the men and punched and kicked the man. The combatants fled when officers arrived, but Martinez and Farfan were stopped. Officers found a small bag of marijuana in Farfan's pocket and he was charged with possession of marijuana; Martinez was charged with mob action, reports said. Their Skokie court date was set for Aug. 14.
