Garage destroyed in Villa Park fire

A fire early Sunday morning destroyed a Villa Park residential garage, fire officials said.

About 4 a.m., Villa Park's fire department responded to the fire in a detached garage on the 200 lock of North Cornell Avenue, Lt. Louis Vicelli said.

The homeowner was taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear to be serious, Vicelli said.

There were no cars in the garage, but the homeowner's car in the driveway was slightly damaged, along with a neighbor's detached garage, officials said.

The blaze took about an hour to extinguish completely.

The cause is still under investigation, and a dollar amount was not available Sunday afternoon.

Officials are not sure if anyone else was at home.

Elmhurst, York Center and Lombard fire departments assisted in battling the blaze.
