First boats finish 333-mile Chicago-Mackinac race

MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. -- The first boats have sailed into Mackinac (MAK'-ih-naw) Island to complete the annual race on Lake Michigan from Chicago.

Genuine Risk was the first to finish the 333-mile course at 2:18 a.m. Monday with a corrected time of 35 hours, 8 minutes.

Finishing second was Windquest with a corrected time of 35 hours, 56 minutes. Windquest is owned by former Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos.

Boats are handicapped by weight and type, and final results will be known after calculations are made.

A total of 439 boats left Chicago's Navy Pier by Saturday afternoon for what is considered one of the world's longest freshwater races. Race organizers say it takes most boats between 40 and 60 hours to finish.
