DuPage men charged in attack on police officer

Authorities have filed multiple felony charges against a Glen Ellyn man who is accused of striking a Chicago police officer with a vehicle during a traffic stop and fleeing the wrong way onto the Eisenhower Expressway during Friday's afternoon rush hour.

Chicago Police spokesman John Mirabelli says 31-year-old Matthew Ristau was charged Saturday with aggravated battery of a police officer, possession of heroin, driving under the influence, and a number of other counts.

The passenger Ristau's car, 53-year-old Thomas Hogueisson of Wheaton, was charged with possession of heroin. Hogueisson, who was shot in the torso by an officer, remained hospitalized Saturday night.

The incident forced the closing of the westbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway for four hours, and caused major tieups throughout the rest of Chicago's expressway system.
