Police officer struck by car
Authorities say a Chicago police officer was in stable condition after being struck and dragged by a vehicle that then fled the wrong way onto a busy expressway.
Police spokeswoman Monique Bond says two officers made a traffic stop on the West Side Friday afternoon as part of a narcotics investigation.
Bond says the man refused to get out of the car and drove off, hitting and dragging one officer for a short distance. Backup officers pursed him, and after a crash one of them fired shots at the suspect's car, striking a 53-year-old passenger in the torso.
The passenger was reported in stable condition Friday night at Stroger Hospital.
Other details of the incident were unavailable early Saturday morning.
