Where is extra sewer money going?
Our sewer bill recently went from $220.59 per quarter to $306.36. Lake County public works raised their fee from $45 per quarter to $72. The Village of Lake Zurich, which operates the sewer system, did not have a rate increase.
This leaves $58.77 of the increase unaccounted for. After numerous calls, the Village of Kildeer seems incapable of explaining this difference. They keep trying to blame Lake County (because they raised their fee by 60 percent) and Lake Zurich (despite no increase) for the increase.
While we feel that $306.36 is high to begin with, it is our understanding that LCPW plans 60 percent increases in each of the next 3 years. At this rate, our sewer bill will be nearly $5,000 per year given the unaccounted for and apparently unexplainable accompanying increase. Try selling a house with a $5,000 per year sewer bill!
We feel an investigation is needed into who is getting the additional funds and what they are being used for.
Incidentally, our sewer system has not been expanded or modified in our area in at least the last six years.
