Who doesn't love Megasaurus spewing flames?

What the heck was that?

At the end of monster truck racing, a tank-like vehicle crawled into the arena.

Amidst a rumbling sound, it transformed into Megasaurus, a three-story-tall fire-spewing, dragon-looking monster and made waste of a compact car.

Always a crowd-pleaser at the fair, Megasaurus filled the time between the racing and the monster truck freestyle competition.

The Elburn Fire Department had to put out the mass of flames left by Megasaurus as he crawled out of the arena.

Megasaurus will return for two more days at the fair.

A petting zoo, too

A chance to see an aspect of farm life in the city has been, and will continue to be, available at the Kane County Fair as Miller's Petting Zoo of Port Byron sits in the northeast section of the fairgrounds.

The petting zoo brought about 40 farm animals, including ducks, baby goats, baby pot-bellied pigs and a giant rabbit.

The zoo's owner, Dennis Rushing, said the traffic flow of children and adults has been consistent through the first two days of the fair.

"It's so popular with the kids and the parents like to watch the kids interact with the animals," said Rushing, who owns a 25-acre farm on which he raises the animals.

Rushing has owned the petting zoo for 13 years and said his business does more than 200 appearances a year.

His favorite part of the zoo is seeing children interact with the animals, as well as people's reactions to the zoo.

"It's watching the magic take place," he said. "People love you when you show up."

Anyone can pet the animals and for $1 can feed the animals.

Simulated surfing

The surf was up at the BP Amoco tent at the Kane County Fair on Thursday.

Fair attendees had the chance to run on a treadmill, climb a rotating rock wall and even ride a simulated wave.

Jason Kilgore, 26, of Elgin tried his luck at all three and flipped off the surfboard as a finishing move.

"That was cool," he said. "I always used to pretend I was surfing on my skateboard."

The attractions gave the company a chance to promote a new additive to its gas, BP Invigorate, which launched July 1.

Erin Greely, a BP representative, said the additive is included in all BP grades and all BP gas stations in Illinois.

The attractions will be there all weekend and visitors can also sign up for a chance to win one of four $50 gas cards being given away each day at the fair.

Fast percussion

Think you have some fast drumming hands?

A "World's Fastest Drummer" contest will be held at the fair beginning at 1 p.m. today in front of the Miller Lite soundstage.

Also at 7:30 tonight at the fairground's grandstand area, a truck pull, the second leg of the fair's first Triple Crown of Motorsports, will take place.

The first leg was Thursday's monster truck race.
