Second Aurora bank robbery this week
Another Aurora bank was robbed this afternoon, the city's second holdup in as many days.
The robbery took place about 2 p.m. at Old Second National Bank, 1350 N. Farnsworth Ave. According to police, a male suspect implied to a teller he had a weapon, then fled on foot with a plastic bag containing an unknown amount of cash.
Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said several customers and employees were present at the time, but no one was hurt. Witnesses told police the robber ran west toward an apartment building.
"We had a K-9 out there from the Kane County Sheriff's Department," Ferrelli said. "The search, so far, has turned up negative."
The FBI, which routinely probes bank robberies, is expected to examine any similarities between today's heist and one Tuesday morning at Fifth Third Bank, 34 S. Broadway Ave., even though the two don't appear to be related, Ferrelli said.
"It's obviously something I'm sure the FBI will be looking at," he said. "But preliminarily, there seems to be more dissimilarities than similarities."
The suspect in today's bank robbery is described as about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He wore a black cap and a "puffy brown" sweatshirt or jacket pulled up over his nose.
In Tuesday's robbery, the suspect displayed a note that demanded money and implied he had a weapon, police said. A teller put an undisclosed sum of money into a coffee can, with which the suspect fled on foot to a newer model blue pickup truck. According to police, he was last seen driving toward eastbound Galena Boulevard.
The suspect in the earlier robbery is described as a 30- to 40-year-old man with a medium to large build. He had short, light brownish hair and a "scruffy beard," and wore dark sunglasses, a white, collared shirt with orange stripes and blue jeans.
