Man critical after Gurnee motorcycle crash

A 61-year-old Grayslake man is in critical condition following a motorcycle accident at Route 120 and River Road Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Eugene Mickan was riding his 2007 Honda motorcycle in the eastbound lane of Route 120 when a 78-year-old woman driving a 2005 Nissan Altima cut him off, said Sgt. Christopher Thompson, spokesman for the Lake County sheriff's office.

Chizuko Kraft of Libertyville - who was driving the Nissan - said she did not see the motorcycle before turning onto Route 120 from River Road, Thompson said.

He added Mickan slammed into the front of the car and fell onto the road.

Witnesses said Mickan was wearing a helmet.

Mickan was transported from the scene to Condell Medical Center with a head injury, Thompson said, and multiple broken bones.

Kraft was treated at the scene and released without injuries.

Thompson added drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the accident. No tickets have been issued.
