Briefs: Huntley stays in ComEd fight
Huntley has asked for more time to contest last week's ruling in favor of ComEd's effort to build new transmission lines along Kreutzer Road. Huntley objects to the route because it would interfere with future plans to widen Kreutzer and build new development along the road. The parties involved have until Aug. 1 to contest the July 11 ruling, but Huntley has asked for more time to evaluate its options. "We are in the process of evaluating whether to file an exception," Assistant Village Manager Dave Johnson said. Johnson said he wants to emphasize the impact ComEd's route would have on existing residents. The ruling will not be final until the Illinois Commerce Commission issues a final decision later this summer.

New physical requirements
Illinois law changes student physical requirements for the upcoming school year. Now, all children entering kindergarten should have an eye examination performed by a licensed physician or an optometrist within one year of Oct. 15. School districts are required to waive the eye examination requirement for low income families with children who receive free and reduced-price lunches and are eligible for public assistance such as Medicaid or All Kids state health insurance. Students entering sixth grade this school year who got physicals between August 2006 and last September do not need to get another exam. Incoming fifth graders also will not need to submit proof of a physical to school officials. Those fifth graders will need a physical before entering sixth grade in 2009-10.
