Teen Battle of the Books: Read "Uglies," "Looking for Alaska," "Twilight," "American Born Chinese" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" and answer questions about them. Storytime in the Park: 11:15 a.m. July 15; Pioneer Park, Arlington Heights Library staff hosts 20-minute storytime and bookmobile. In case of bad weather, storytime is canceled, but bookmobile open for checkouts. No registration needed.

Ancient Egyptian Art: 1-3 p.m. July 16; Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson St. Ancient Egyptians used special jars called canopic jars when they made mummies. Make a miniature version during this program. No registration is necessary. The program is geared toward children ages 5-12, and an adult must accompany children.
