Batavia motorcyclist critical after crash

A Batavia man is in critical condition after crashing his 1995 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle into a van three blocks from his house Monday evening, Batavia police and fire officials said.

Clayton Samuelson, 48, was airlifted after the accident to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, fire officials said.

The accident occured at 5:45 p.m. when Samuelson was traveling south on Batavia Avenue in the inside lane. Police said the van was preparing to turn left onto northbound Batavia from Morton Street.

The female driver of the 1999 Dodge Caravan did not see Samuelson when she started to turn left onto Batavia, police said. She saw Samuelson just moments before the crash, but could not stop in time to avoid the collision.

Police added witness reports say the van might not have been in view of the driver due to traffic conditions at the time.

It's unclear whether Samuelson was wearing a helmet.

Police officials are still investigating the accident but have not issued a citation.
