Check with vet assistance group

In the June 10 edition of the Daily Herald, as part of "Lake County in 60 Seconds," you had an article about a seminar on vet benefits.

I want to remind your readers that the Veterans Assistance Commission of Lake County provides free assistance with VA claims and we also provide emergency assistance for those veterans who qualify. We urge all veterans to contact our office before paying for any service being performed on their behalf in regards to a claim with the VA. Neither the VA or the VAC charge a fee for claim processing.

The VAC, depending on availability, will send a representative to not-for-profit organizations asking for a briefing on VA benefits. To qualify for the Aids and Attendance program the veterans must have a claim for a service-connected disability or a non-service-connected pension. The VAC of Lake County is located at 20 S. Martin Luther King Ave., Waukegan.

For information, call (847) 377-3344 or visit our Web site at www.co.lake.il.us/veterans.
