Play DDR, Guitar Hero at the library
Ela Area Public Library will host a Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero open house from 3 to 5 p.m. July 25 at the library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. The program is sponsored by the Friends of Ela Library and designed for students in grades 6 through 12. Registration is not required. For information, call the library at (847) 438-3433.
McShane to expand in Libertyville
Another large office/warehouse center has received approval for the far northwest side of Libertyville. McShane Corporation plans to build Liberty Point North Commerce Center on 47 acres north of Peterson Road and east of Harris Road. The development will include three buildings, with rain gardens and bioswales used to help purify stormwater run off. The developer also is responsible for a section of a Midlothian Road extension and spur road to connect with Harris Road. A provision of the approval last week by the village board also calls for two acres to dedicated to the village as the future site of a fire station. The development is similar to the Liberty Point Commerce Center on the south side of Peterson.
Special session in Lindenhurst
Lindenhurst village board members are slated to hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday. Much of the meeting is expected to be in a closed-door session to review applicants for the village administrator opening. Police Chief Jack McKeever has been serving as interim village administrator since May. Mayor Susan Lahr approached McKeever to serve in the job after Village Administrator James Stevens announced his retirement.
Mundelein police win award
The Mundelein Police Department tied for a third-place award in the International Association of Chiefs of Police's 2007 national law enforcement challenge. The contest recognizes traffic safety programs. The award will be presented at a conference in November.
Voter registration
The League of Women Voters of Arlington Heights/Mount Prospect/Buffalo Grove area will register new voters from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival at the Buffalo Grove Town Center, 124 McHenry Road, Buffalo Grove. To register, applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old by election day and reside in their precincts for at least 30 days before the election. Two pieces of identification are required; at least one piece must have the current address. More information is at voterinfonet.com. Current voters can make address and name changes.
