Chicago bus catches fire

Authorities say dozens of people were evacuated when the rear engine compartment of a Chicago Transit Authority bus caught fire on the city's Lake Shore Drive.

CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski says the fire occurred Sunday night on the Number 147 Outer Drive Express bus just south of Wilson Avenue, and it disrupted traffic for some time on northbound Lake Shore Drive.

Chicago Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Kelly says it was probably an electrical fire, and one passenger was taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Hosinski said the driver quickly evacuated people from the bus, but some passengers said people were yelling for a minute or so before the driver pulled over.

The large articulated bus is capable of carrying 100 or so passengers.
