Seven made homeless by fire
Authorities in Naperville are blaming two youths playing with illegal fireworks for a fire that left a family of seven homeless.
According to investigators with the Naperville Police Department's arson unit, two boys lighting and tossing firecrackers unintentionally caused the July 3 blaze.
Police Sergeant Gregg Bell said no one has been arrested and no criminal charges have been filed in the case because the incident appears to be accidental.
Twenty-five firefighters worked to extinguish the flames that consumed the deck and leaped into the attic area. No firefighters were hurt.
Although the deck and attic area bore the brunt of the fire, smoke and water damage was extensive throughout the building. Damage was estimated at more than $75,000.
