Man charged with injuring son, ex-wife with car
A Waukegan man is free from custody on a signature bond after being accused of injuring his son and ex-wife with his car.
Gurnee Police Cmdr. William Mayer said David Ferris, 33, is charged with aggravated battery and aggravated reckless driving in the July 7 incident.
Mayer said Ferris, of 2425 Washington St., Apt. 1W, was meeting with his ex-wife in a parking lot at 6124 Route 132 around 8:25 p.m. for a child custody exchange.
The couple began arguing about Ferris' failure to have a child restraint seat in his car for his 2-year-old son, Mayer said.
Ferris' ex-wife was reaching into the car to remove the boy when Ferris drove off, Mayer said, dragging both the woman and the boy for a short distance.
Both were treated for abrasions, Mayer said, and Ferris was arrested at the scene.
During the booking process, it was discovered Ferris was also wanted on an arrest warrant from Wisconsin charging him with failure to appear in court on a traffic offense.
Ferris faces up to five years in prison if convicted, and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 1.
