Murder suspect will not resist return to Illinois

Clarence Weber Jr. is expected to appear in a Waukegan courtroom today after waiving his right to an extradition hearing Wednesday in Crown Point, Ind.

Weber, 58, is charged with first-degree murder in the Saturday stabbing death of his wife, Adelina, 31, in a Lincolnshire hotel parking lot.

During a brief courtroom appearance in Lake County, Ind., Weber told a judge he would not resist being returned to Illinois, prosecutor Diane Poulton said

Weber was caught near Crown Point early Tuesday morning after walking away from a truck stop on Interstate 65 as police closed in late Monday afternoon.

A massive manhunt failed to catch him that night, but Lake County sheriff's deputies arrested him after residents of the area called to report a man fitting his description was walking along the road in front of their houses.

Weber is believed to have stabbed his wife as they argued over the divorce petition she had filed against him June 30.

The couple had filed for orders of protection against each other in the months leading up to the slaying, although Clarence Weber withdrew his request a few days after he filed it.

Adelina Weber's order of protection was still in effect when she went to meet her husband in the parking lot of the SpringHill Suites, 300 N. Marriott Drive after she left her job at the Walker Bros. Original Pancake House.

Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said Adelina Weber died from a single stab wound to the chest.

Lake County Deputy State's Attorney Jeff Pavletic said he will ask a judge to leave intact the $2 million bond set on the arrest warrant for Weber.
