Florida man serious following motorcycle accident
A Florida man remains hospitalized after slamming his Harley Davidson motorcycle into the side of a van during evening rush hour Wednesday.
Jonathan Kloepfer, 34, of Jacksonville, Fla., was headed eastbound on Aptakisic Road in Lincolnshire at about 6:15 p.m. when a 1998 Nissan Quest van turned left in front of him onto Barclay Blvd., said Cmdr. John Kleffner of the Lincolnshire Police Department.
The van was driven by Hamaad Ahmad, 19, of Glenview, Kleffner said.
Kloepfer didn't have time to slow down and hit the side of the van at about 35 mph, Kleffner said.
"A lot of times, drivers do not see motorcycles on the road because they are so small," he said. "That's what seemed to happen this time."
Kloepfer was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
He was taken by ambulance from the scene to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Kleffner said.
Kloepfer is listed in serious condition, said Condell spokeswoman Chris Vicik.
Ahmad was cited by police for making an illegal left turn.
Kleffner said Aptakisic was shut down for about an hour by police while the accident was investigated.
