Bensenville questions airport demolition safety
Attorneys for the city of Bensenville are disputing claims that demolishing a large portion of the Chicago suburb for a new O'Hare International Airport runway can be done safely.
During a hearing in DuPage County Circuit Court on Wednesday, the attorneys presented two experts who testified Chicago's environmental study was incomplete. Robin Adams and Frank Jones said the study was not broad enough to determine if the demolition of about 550 homes and businesses would be a hazard to remaining area residents.
Judge Kenneth Popejoy approved a temporary restraining order last July halting Chicago's plans to demolish the homes in Bensenville.
Chicago wants the temporary restraining order lifted, while Bensenville wants to make the order permanent.
