Looks like it's Jenks' turn for a stint on DL

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Paul Konerko came off the disabled list on Tuesday.

Look for Bobby Jenks to land on the DL today.

On Saturday, X-rays and a CT scan on Jenks' upper left back revealed no major problems. But after doing some throwing before Tuesday night's game against the Royals, the White Sox' closer still wasn't feeling good enough to take the mound.

"Right now it feels fine going out there and playing catch,'' Jenks said. "But as far as getting off the mound, it still puts some pain on it.''

Assuming he lands on the disabled list, the move would be retroactive to June 30. Jenks last pitched against the Cubs the night before, when he felt a strain.

Jenks would be eligible to be activated after the all-star break.

"It seems like it's taking longer to heal than it should,'' Jenks said. "There is no reason for me to go out and try to push it, especially where we are sitting right now. I can rest the first half and that way I'm healthy for the second half and that September push. That's more important.''

Closing time: With Bobby Jenks out of action, manager Ozzie Guillen said right-hander Scott Linebrink and left-hander Matt Thornton are going to be used in the closer's role.

"I don't want to change people's roles,'' Guillen said. "It's going to be between those two guys. (Octavio) Dotel is in the picture because he's done it before. But I think he's doing so good down there that I don't want him involved.''

Loaiza's back: After pitching for Class AAA Charlotte on a rehabilitation assignment, Esteban Loaiza has rejoined the White Sox.

The veteran right-hander is not on the active roster. Instead, he's trying to build up arm strength before the Sox make a decision on his future with the club.
