The American flag merits celebration

The American flag and I have a special relationship for many years.

It started in sixth grade when given a large glossy page folded in quarters about the history of the American flag and how to respect it, fly it, fold it, carry it and love it in our history class.

Dad was in the Navy fighting in the Pacific so I studied the flag test carefully. I fought for it years later and saw many (too many) on caskets.

June 14th was Flag Day and the Daily Herald said nothing about it.

I waited days reading the Herald and, to my sorrow, your publication never brought it up.

On the 14th, I celebrated our flag at the Des Plaines Elks with the VFW, US Marines, the Chicago Police Honor Guard, the Des Plaines Police Dept. 3-gun 3-volley salute.

The Boy Scouts of America carried the different flags while a history of our flag was narrated.

In this era, it seems like only scout troops are teaching our children patriotism.

It is obvious that your publication is not assisting in any way. What did you do besides put R Kelly on the front page?
