Stick to truth in Kirk-Seals debate
I am writing in response to Mr. Goodman's recent letter to the editor, which is so full of inaccuracies (on the Seals-Kirk campaign) that I marched right to the computer.
The gas giveaway hour was not illegal. The Seals campaign was not fined.
The campaign did regret the traffic snarl-up and did reimburse Lincolnshire for the expense of traffic control.
Perhaps the unexpectedly huge response was the best illustration of how our citizens are desperately trying to keep afloat in this disastrous economy?
Mark Kirk is not an "independent reformer." Researching Mr. Kirk's voting record quantifies that he is robotic in his allegiance to the Bush administration, to the tune of 90 percent voting record with the Republican agenda.
With that kind of record, Mr. Kirk is clearly not on the side of the 70 percent-plus Americans who disapprove of what is going on in Washington.
There is nothing to indicate that Seals plans to go to Washington to "change positions more than a weathervane."
Mr. Seals' views have been consistently expressed in his speeches, writings, and public pronouncements for the past several years.
He hasn't changed them. He continues to oppose the war in Iraq. He continues to support Israel.
He brings his financial and marketing expertise to promoting more realistic plans to improve the economy.
His positions on the environment, health care, and education are equally steadfast.
So, let's stick to the truth, shall we?
