Man dies after rescue from water

A man who was rescued from Lake Michigan by Chicago Fire Department emergency crews has died.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as 50-year-old Julius Collins.

According to fire department spokesman Commander Will Knight, emergency crews responded to a report of a man in the water on Tuesday evening. Two divers leapt from a helicopter into the water and found the man about 25 feet from shore.

Grand Crossing Police District Captain Kenneth Johnson said the man was with another person when he accidently fell into the water. Johnson said rescue units were called almost immediately after the mishap.

Knight said the man was in the water for 10 minutes. He was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where he later died.
